Richmondshire District Elections
The elections to elect 34 Councillors for the Richmondshire District were held in May 2011. The 34 members represent 24 wards with most wards having a single councillor but some larger ones having 2 or 3 shared councillors.
Politically the 34 councillors elected were as follows:
- 16 Independents
- 14 Conservatives
- 4 Liberal Democrats
The Independents were formed by the joining together the following:
- Richmondshire Independents;
- The Richmondshire Association of Independent Councillors;
- Independents of North Yorkshire;
- Individual Independents.
As Richmondshire Independents we are registered with the Electoral Commission and thus accepted as a properly constituted group. We fielded several candidates in the District Elections in May 2011 and we won 75% of the seats we contested. We will always welcome additional candidates who are resolutely independent and would like to try to further improve the quality of life for our residents. We also welcome with open arms anyone who does not wish to stand as a councillor but supports the aims of the group and would like to help in any way e.g. delivering leaflets, newsletters etc.
Please feel free to contact either of the Officers below if you would like:
- to discuss standing as one of our candidates
- offer any help between elections
- find out more about joining our group.
